Introduction to specialist pathway: Moving Image.

RESEARCH

This was the Chevrolet Advert for 'The SuperBowl 2011' Even though i would not be able to produce such an advert i find it very clever, the way it starts off as if it is in a car sales room selling chevrolet cars,  and then all of a sudden it turns into Bumble bee from Transformers, this idea is humorous yet effective and would probably interest teenagers and young adults who are share a liking for Transformers.
Technically this advert looks amateur, with the fast zooms, it doesn't really look as if the Cameraman knows what he is doing, but this is all done for a reason. When first watching this ad you do not expect the car to turn into a transformer and so the amateur filming leads you off the scent, but when the car 'transforms' it amazes the audience, the first initial reaction to this advert is to half heartedly watch it, then when the special effects come into it the audience are glued to the screen.
This advert does exactly what the people behind it wanted it to do, shock, amaze... i feel this is a good advert to research, if this advert can shock people simply the way it has, maybe i can find a way to shock my audience into watching my advert.

This is one of the most iconic adverts in the last 10 years, if you asked someone on the street 'Which Honda Advert can you remember?' the majority would say this one.
The chain reaction effect of this advert keeps the viewers watching and waiting for what is going to be set off next and what is the message behind the chain reaction?
This advert is flawless and is humorous at the same time. It is a smart advert, yet follows a simple structure and idea.
The shots do not cut either it follows in a long pan for the whole of the 2 minute advert and the camera moves smoothly with no technical hitches.

This advert gives me inspiration and shows how a simple idea can be effective and make people be aware of and not take for granted.

I know this isn't a car advert, but i feel that i would like my Ad to follow in this kind of structure, montage of clips of different people, different objects, the artistic shots and the voice over.
This is a quirky advert and has been filmed on a DSLR as you can tell by the depth of the shots- it makes the shot look a lot more interesting using a photography camera instead of a film, the shots look at lot more artistic.

I have chosen this advert to look at because i feel the structure of it is upbeat, with the 'Inspiratoinal' words from the voice over, the beautiful shots, the pretty music grabs peoples attention! and this is what i want take from this advert and apply it to my own.

Professional & Contextual studies 1 -City in a Minute. Research.

This is my research for the assignment titled 'City in a Minute'. I have looked at many films of the same category and theme on Vimeo.

These are the videos that i have looked into:

The istanbul from Ceyhan Burak on Vimeo.
This video is filmed in Instanbul, and is mainly filmed in a time lapse manor, the shots are extremely artistic, and paint Instanbul in a beautiful light, picking out the best bits of the country.
In the first shot, it is filmed in time lapse, then is paused and just a bird flies into shot, only the bird is moving, even though this looks incredibly artistic, and would also take along time to edit in, it isn't effective because you can see that it is edited in, with the graininess around the bird, it obviously looks like it has been added in, it could've been filmed earlier in the same shot and added into a later shot of the same background.
The music that has been used is sorrowful and suggests a deeper element of sadness around that particular city.
The shots that are used are mainly based around the sea, these are extremely beautiful to say the least, but what this film needs is a few shots of the people walking around the actual city to build up the fact it is a city and not just a shipping port, this is the impression i get from this film.
some of the shots are sped up then slowed down, even though this does work, it doesn't fit in my mind that it is a short documentary about a city, it looks like a holiday video in my mind, for example, advertising Instanbul in a beautiful light so people would visit.

Sarajevo from Marek Tuniak on Vimeo.
This is filmed in Sarajevo in Bosnia. I feel that this short film captures the heart of Bosnia, the music of this film is also sorrowful and fits extremely well with the black and white shoot, this shoot was filmed on a Canon EOS 550d, this enhances the film, as in the shots are very deep, and has an artistic edge to them. the shots are also crisp and sharp, and this in my eyes reflects coldness and bitterness of the snow. The shots of the snow, the steaming chimney and the children running around all paint a beautiful picture, sort of fairy tale like.
There is also an a sad element to this short film, the music is slow and sorrowful and the black and white shoot suggests sadness too. This is one of the films that i have looked at that isn't filmed in time lapse.

LA In A Minute (TIMELAPSE) from Avi Cohen on Vimeo.
this video is extremely energetic, trying to suggest that LA is an energetic city. The film starts off with sun rise and shows LA though out the day in time-lapse. It has been filmed over the course of a few days. The main focus is on the night time of LA showing 'what they have to offer'.
I chose this video to look at because i felt that some of the shots where extremely beautiful, especially the night shots of the city. i feel as if the artistic shots of this video is something that i can incorporate into my own film.

Atlanta time lapse from Richard Bentley on Vimeo.
The music to this film is the main thing that sticks out to me, i feel that this music has been made specially for this production, it is an epic piece of music, the person who had made this film had done this on purpose, to build up suspense within the viewers, the shots are filmed in time-lapse and are extremely long shots, this is also done to build up suspense to see the next shot, all this suspense builds up to a storm over Atlanta.
I like the way the buildings have been made to look like giants, as if they giants that you should be afraid of, i like this, but i wonder if this shot of a tilt up can be incorporated into my film?

There is also an aquarium that is in the film, even though it is a beautiful shot, it looks out of place within this film.

Australian Time Lapse Montage 2011 from Marcus O'Brien on Vimeo.
This is my favourite film from the city in minutes collection- even though it is a few cities. i find the shots truly breath taking, the time lapse and the pan shots go so amazing together even though the shouldn't work, it looks as if it could be a pov shot.
This has been filmed on a Canon 1D Mark IV, and has used various lenses to get the beautiful deep, crisp shots.

The music also adds a softer side to this film, the music is soft and encourages you to relax. This short film is almost dream like.

IDEAS FOR FILM- TAKEN FROM NOTES 10th Jan 2012
Looking into the research that i have done, i have decided that i do not want to follow the time lapse theme that the majority of them follow and have decided to make a slow paced film of lichfield.
I feel that if i film my chosen city in time lapse then it wouldn't capture the true feeling of the city, i want to make a film that shows how the town actually functions.
I also want to show how 'pretty' lichfield is, by picking out the beautiful spots, but also incorporating the public into it, by filming the actual town centre.
